EAST BEACHES FIRE AND RESCUE CENTRE Engaged in 2005 by the RM of St. Clement and the RM of Alexander, MMP Architects developed a new Rescue Centre to meet the needs of the entire East Beaches area. The success of the Rescue Centre can be attributed to a fully Integrated Design Process and the development of a program that met the needs of all users. Situated in the town of Grand Marias, MB, the Rescue Centre includes a vehicle storage garage, administration and communications offices, sleeping quarters, a recreation lounge, and a training room. Space has also allocated to allow for the operation of an EMO Command Centre in case of a large scale emergency. Incorporating sustainable design choices was a motivating aspect of the project. Located adjacent to a spring, geothermal energy was harnessed to heat and cool the building and to heat the floor slab in the storage garage.
