Grand Beach Washrooms

Grand Beach, Manitoba

A concept of "no building", it was decided that the building should not dominate the beach. A construction method dating back to 5000BC was modernized through pneumatically compacting on-site sand, gravel and clay; stabilized through cement, rammed earth construction was used to minimize the impact on the environment and tie the building into its context.

That result is a building that will last indefinitely, is economically viable, and makes use of one of the best sustainable building materials: Earth.
